It was shopping day in Kampala! Not for the team or for families, but for gameswear, backpacks, socks, shoes, etc. for the next sponsorship year. What an adventure! Ronald, Mariah, and Violet took us to downtown Kampala, where they say all shopping in Uganda begins. The sidewalks and streets were packed and it was a challenge just to move from one place to another. And anything, I mean ANYTHING you wanted to buy, was available. We visited several different distributors to find the best quality for the best price. It was actual great fun and we learned a lot. Later in the day we met up with the rest of the team and headed to Jinja. We had some brief meetings with some of the staff about our plans for expansion and are enjoying a dinner at the Sunset Hotel. We moved dinner inside as the skies opened up right as we sat down outside. All in all, an enjoyable day for each of us. Looking forward to some meetings with all of the Hearts and Hope staff first thing in the morning. Later, the guys will be heading to a tour of a Teacher Training College and I will be heading to Nakabango to meet with the P3 and P4 classes. Students at Messiah Lutheran School in Weldon Spring, MO have written letters to these kids and we're hoping to deliver them and spend some time with them. We are thankful for families and friends who allow us to do this work that we love so much!

The Leadership Team for Hearts and Hope has arrived safely in Kampala! Twenty-four hours after leaving St. Louis, we landed in Entebbe. No problems on flights.
We are having a late dinner with Pastor Charles Bameka and Henry, the H&H Project Coordinator. Tomorrow we have plans to visit a secondary school and conduct some meetings with the rest of the Hearts and Hope staff. Much to be done, but so many good things can come out of this time spent together. Todd and I are thinking of introducing "trust falls" as a team-building exercise.....but maybe not. We are thankful to those who have contributed to our efforts here in Uganda. Keep checking back for daily updates, as Wi-Fi allows. Julie The day is finally here! we made our flight from St. Louis to Detroit and are about to board or flight to Amsterdam. tomorrow, we'll be flying due south to Entebbe and will arrive late in Sunday night. It's a long flight, but it's a great chance to pause, reflect on the past year, and prepare for the week ahead. Can't wait to see our friends in Uganda!
